Oh, Amanda, I'm grinning from ear-to-ear seeing your words and images here for the first time! Substack and its readers are so lucky to have you. This is a stunningly beautiful first piece and I'm so not surprised. You are that artist who is able to create even as life gets rocky. Thank you for putting your words out into the world for us to read. I love you, my friend! 🩷🩷🩷

Amanda, this is achingly beautiful... and beautifully aching. The grief and bewilderment of the loss of a little one are so deep, so palpably expressed here. I don't think animals have the power (magic and totems) Ted Andrews ascribes to them, but I certainly see how nature has stories written all over it and how animals play a part in the meaning and complexity of those stories. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hope you keep writing.

Dulci, thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts on the piece. I always hope something will resonate with readers, even if all of it doesn’t. I like to think of it as keeping the meat and spitting out the bones. I appreciate that some of my thoughts are bones for others, but am glad there are some morsels there.
